  This is the online learning site for Admiralty & Maritime Law (749). The   subject is the corpus of rules, practices, and legal concepts governing   certain activities in the business of carrying goods and passengers over   navigable waters.

  This study of law is focused on an industry tied with a unique history and   international traditions quite distinct from what you know about "shore"   law counterpart applications. Its issues span much of the basic curriculum,   such as contracts, civil procedure, torts, legislation, comparative law,   international law, and property to name a few.

  In the United States, and are almost synonyms. The   subject is governed by federal law and jurisdiction is vested in the federal   courts although there is some limited vestigal overlap with state courts.
